Our Story
Born out of a genuine concern for the inability of the children and families in our communities to access a quality educational experience, Sofara International was created to offer an alternative approach to the education empowerment model for Harlem’s children. It has been our objective from day one to build a school that not only helps break the school to prison pipeline, but that offers our children the rich and diverse international experiences and exposure they will need to succeed in a future, technology-driven, global community.

A School Based on Solid Research
Our strategic approach has always been to model Sofara International after progressive educational programs that demonstrate the qualities and achievements we would like to offer and see present for the children whom become future Sofara ambassadors. Through our extensive research and collaboration with other highly invested parents, educators, community leaders, politicians and industry experts, it became clear that to accomplish our mission we needed to put in place a new way to teach and learn. As such, the International Baccalaureate program was chosen as the best educational vehicle to embody Sofara’s principles, as we journey toward our higher goal.
Together We Can Make a Difference
So, in partnership with many key stakeholders right here in the Harlem community, Sofara International has boldy envisioned and designed the strategic framework of a wall-to-wall International Baccalaureate World School for our children. After years of research and development, Sofara International is not only an educational concept that obliterates the often feared, prison pipeline, but it offers a true voice, promise and of opportunity to an entire community of children. They will have greater access to a world class, global education, in their own community. Our dual language program of choice is French (adding enrichment languages as we grow such as Arabic, Mandarin and Spanish).
Sofara International’s application will be submitted to the The Board of Regents through NYSED for authorization to open our doors in the Fall of 2018.
